Paid Post Graduate/Post Doctoral Training Opportunity

POST DOCTORATE/ POST GRADUATE (MSW) FELLOWSHIP IN CHILD PSYCHOTHERAPY:

Reiss-Davis Child Study Center - a service of Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services – located on its campus in West Los Angeles, is now accepting applications for its Post Doctorate/Post Graduate Fellowship Program in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy for psychologists and Social Workers who wish to develop a specialty in working with children, adolescents and their families from a developmentally based psychodynamic perspective, with a bio-neuro-psycho-social emphasis. The program also offers certificate training in Evidence Based Practices as well as opportunities to participate in research activities. The 24-month long Part Time Fellowship Program offers a stipend and begins in September of every year. It consists of clinical work with intensive supervision in the Outpatient Clinic of Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services. In addition, the fellows participate in 2 full days of didactic seminars taught by senior professionals in the community.

For application and additional information about the Post-Doctoral/Post Graduate Psychotherapy Fellowship Program, please see below .

Additional Information re: Reiss-Davis Post-Doctoral/Post Graduate Fellowship Program:

The Reiss-Davis Child Study Center was established in 1950 and its first training program began in 1953. It is part of Vista Del Mar (VDM) Child and Family Services and is located on the campus of VDM in West Los Angeles.

The Reiss-Davis Child Study Center has an excellent national and international reputation for training, as well as with clinical work with young people. Unlike many fellowship programs that offer generalized clinical experience to its Fellows,
Reiss-Davis offers a Fellowship that exclusively focuses on diagnostic and therapeutic services to children, adolescents and families from a psychodynamic perspective. It is a two years long training program that allows the fellows to experience providing a (relatively) long term, in depth psychotherapy to children, adolescents and families.

As part of the package of learning, the Fellowship includes:

  • Seminars of between 12 to 14 hours per week that are particularly chosen for their relevance in working with children, adolescents and parents and taught by a group of well-respected professionals, with decades of experience teaching and working with young people.
  • In our training program, Fellows have the opportunity to work clinically with young people and their families for at least 10 to 12 hours a week, and as a result can receive up to three hours of individual supervision each week in addition to the group supervision offered as a part of various classes. This amount of individual supervision rivals any other fellowship program focusing on children and adolescents that is offered around the country.
  • Our Fellows have the opportunity to participate in several research projects headed by prominent figures in the mental health field such as Bessel van der Kolk, M.D. and Stephen Porges, Ph.D.
  • We also offer conferences and workshops with local and national mental health professionals where our Fellows are able to attend free of charge. Past speakers have included Alicia Lieberman, Ph.D., Allan Schore, Ph.D., Daniel Segal, MD, Bruce Perry, PhD, Ed Tronick, PhD, T. Barry Brazelton, M.D., Peter Fonagy, PhD, among others.
  • Because our Fellowship is part-time, the current part-time stipend for the fellowship is $18,500 for the training cycle of 2018-2020. This is a final increase in the Fellows’ stipend and will stay the same unless otherwise specified.

Please note that as we are an APPIC member site, we must fulfill their criteria that our Fellows are graduates psychologists of accredited institutions, except if we should have space open for which there are no applicants who meet this requirement. We do not designate specific positions to Social Workers (SW) and/or Psychologists. Rather, we offer a position to candidates who fulfill the APPIC criteria and, seem to have a potential to be successful in the program. If there are available spots after all screening has been done and APPIC criteria was considered, we will offer the position to the best candidate whether a SW or a Psychologist.

All Fellows must have their doctoral degrees and/or Master in Social Work awarded well before the start date and posted no later than September 1, 2018 for the next training cycle of 2018-2020.

We offer only a limited number of fellowships each year. If you are interested in submitting your application, we recommend that you submit your completed application, CV and copies of transcripts sooner than later. The deadline for the coming training year is June 30th, 2018 as we are closing admissions soon thereafter. However, if you are interested in applying and feel you cannot meet this deadline, please contact me directly so that we can discuss your options.
