"Bullying"

Elaine Leader, Ph.D., CGP, LFAGPA and TEEN LINE Staff

 

Overview:

This presentation will focus on bullying including the dynamics underlying this behavior.  It offers information about the impact of cyber bullying and how to address the issue of bullying  both in its effects on the individual as well as in educational settings and social media.  A video will demonstrate.  TEEN LINE’s Outreach and a teen volunteer will speak about how bullying nearly destroyed her and how she was able to overcome its impact.

 

Objectives:

1) To increase understanding of the dynamics underlying bullying

2) To identify (via a video) the challenges arising from bullying behaviors

3) To illustrate how adolescents can combat the devastation caused by bullying

 

 

About the Presenter:

 

Dr. Leader received her MSW from UCLA and her Ph.D. from The Sanville Institute where she was a founding year member.  She was Coordinator of Adolescent Group Psychotherapy Training in the Department of Psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai from 1972-1994.  She is Co-founder and Executive Director of the Center for the Study of Young People/TEEN LINE and has been in private practice since 1970.  Dr. Leader is currently Chairperson of the Legacy Advisory Board of the Group Psychotherapy Association of Los Angeles.  She is also a consultant to law enforcement, adolescent-serving agencies and the media.  TEEN LINE, affiliated with Cedars-Sinai, is a teen-to-teen hotline with an extensive community outreach program that includes educational videos, brochures and the widely-acclaimed Youth Yellow Pages.  Since its establishment in 1980 nearly 2,000 teens have been trained as Listeners, answering calls, emails and texts to the hotline and have participated in outreaches to educate youth and adults on adolescent issues.  TEEN LINE’s specialized workshops include Teen Suicide Prevention, LGBTQ Outreach, Teen Dating Violence and Bullying Prevention.  A website, www.teenlineonline.org offers a teen-to-teen Message Board and a wide range of educational offerings

 

This course meets the qualifications for 1.5hrs of CE credit for LCSWs, LMFTs, and LPCCs as required by the CA BBS. PCE #1

The Sherman Oaks Galleria Community Room (at Sepulveda and Ventura). The Community Room is located on the 1st level near the Cheesecake Factory and next to the Paul Mitchell Salon. VALIDATION FOR FREE PARKING ALL DAY will be provided.

All are welcome and may attend at no charge (no CEC certificate). MSW students are encouraged to attend. Light refreshments are provided.  Bring your flyers, brochures and business cards for networking and socializing.  All are welcome at CSCSW District meetings free of charge and regardless of geography.  All clinical disciplines are welcome.  Members earn 1.5 CE credits at no cost. Credits for non-members are $10.00 per unit.
