"Emotionally Focused Therapy"

Overview:

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a research-validated, attachment-based approach to working with a diverse range of couples. EFT offers a map for understanding our deepest relationship needs and struggles. This presentation will combine didactic material and case vignettes. The presenters will provide a brief overview of the EFT model and illustrate key EFT techniques and interventions.

Goals and Objectives:
1. Attendees will be able to summarize basic adult attachment theory as it is utilized in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
2. Attendees will be able to describe the 3 stages of EFT treatment with couples.

3. Attendees will be able to describe a couple's "negative cycle" including primary and secondary affects, behaviors, cognitions and attachment needs.

About the Presenters:

Dr. Blum (CLICK HERE to view her website) provides psychotherapy, parent coaching and co-parent consultation and specializes in working with adolescents and couples. 

Dr. Irwin provides therapy and testing and assessment and specializes in PTSD, relationship distress and anxiety and depression.  Both presenters are members of the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy.

This course meets the qualifications for 1.5hrs of CE credit for LCSWs, LMFTs, and LPCCs as required by the CA BBS. PCE #1

All meetings are from 10:30 to 1:00 with networking before and after presentations. Bring business cards, flyers etc. Members earn 1.5 CE units at no cost. CE credit for non-members is $15.00, no charge to attend without credit. MSW students are encouraged to attend. We meet at the home of Judy Messinger, 3267 Corinth Ave., L.A. 90066. 2 & 1/2 blocks south of National Bl., 1 block west of Sawtelle Bl. Corinth does not intersect National, within a mile of 10 and 405 junction. Plenty of parking and plenty of snacks.
