Description:
Sexual abuse of boys is vastly under reported & the needs of treatment are often poorly understood. Typically, boys and men are not treated for their trauma until decades after the abuse because they don’t tell anyone about what was done to them. Furthermore, when they finally do ask for help, they are frequently treated using models designed for female victims, which fail to address the crippling issues around gender identity, masculinity and sexual orientation that drive their guilt, shame and silence.
Healing The Hidden Hurts addresses the specific issues that men struggle with as a result of their abuse history, dispels many commonly held myths about male survivors of sexual abuse and highlights treatment practices that foster hope, safety, support and healing.
Objectives:
As a result of this course, participants will be able to identify & dispel 5 myths about men who are sexually abused.
As a result of this course, participants will be able to identify 3 guilt/shame triggers for boys/men abused by female perpetrators.
As a result of this course, participants will be able to identify 3 guilt/shame triggers for boys/men abused by male perpetrators.
As a result of this course, participants will be able to name at least 5 ways men experience sexual abuse/assault differently than women do.
This course meets the qualifications for 1.5hrs of CE credit for LCSWs, LMFTs, and LPCCs as required by the CA BBS. PCE #1
