Dialectical Behavioral Therapy: Philosophies, Skills, and Strategies

This talk will provide an introduction to dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Participants will learn about the origin, structure, and philosophy of DBT. They will learn about the core strategies used and how to conduct individual DBT sessions. Last, an overview of the DBT skills will be provided.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify patient populations who might benefit from DBT
2. Name and describe two of the core strategies of DBT
3. List the four skills modules in DBT
About the Speaker: Dr. Leslie Karwoski Anderson, PhD is a clinical assistant professor and director of the DBT program at the UCSD Eating Disorder Program. She is a graduate of the University of Kansas, and completed her clinical internship at Duke University Medical Center. Before coming to UCSD, she held a clinical faculty appointment at the University of Washington and was a staff psychologist at the DBT Center of Seattle. She runs DBT groups for both adolescents and adults with eating disorders, and sees patients in the eating disorder program for family based and individual treatment of anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder and EDNOS. Her research interests are in treatment development, evaluation, and outcomes.
This course meets the qualifications for 1.5hrs of CE credit for LCSWs, LMFTs, and LPCCs as required by the CA BBS. PCE #1
