Working with Victims of Domestic Violence and their Children

Robyn Altmann, LCSW is the Clinical Supervisor for Jewish Family Service-Family Violence Project and manages the clinical programs at all sites including 2 emergency shelters, a transitional shelter as well as the Sherman Oaks outpatient counseling center. She is responsible for supervising the implementation of Trauma Focused CBT at the agency, which is evidence based practice utilizing a conjoint child-parent psychotherapy approach for children and adolescents who are experiencing significant emotional and behavioral difficulties related to traumatic life events. Ms. Altmann is also responsible for training professionals, paraprofessionals and volunteers, as well as co-coordinating the 40 hour domestic violence training that is mandated by the State.

 

Summary of Presentation:

Domestic violence (also known as intimate partner violence) can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, income or other factors. This presentation will cover the dynamics of domestic violence, warning signs of abusers, as well as the impact of domestic violence upon children. Best practice techniques for intervention will cover the dynamics of domestic violence, warning signs of abusers, as well as the impact of domestic violence upon children. Best practice techniques for intervention with both adult victims and their children will be covered. The presentation will be interactive with opportunities for discussion provided.

 

Learning Objectives:

*Participants will learn to recognize the warning signs of domestic violence

*Participants will learn and understand the dynamics of domestic violence

*Participants will learn to recognize the impact upon adult victims and their children

*Participants will learn about the interventions that are most effective


This course meets the qualifications for 1.5hrs of CE credit for LCSWs, LMFTs, and LPCCs as required by the CA BBS. PCE #1

Credits for non-members are $10.00 per unit.
