Adlerian theory and its influence on the field of psychology today will be shared. An early memory will be explored with a volunteer to demonstrate practical application of theoretical concepts.

Positive Discipline, the world-renowned model for creating mutually respectful relationships for children and adults, is based in Adlerian Psychology and a few concepts and tools will be taught experientially. The presentation will end with Q and A and sharing Adlerian resources and options for training.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to use:

  1. Applications of the Adlerian encouragement model for clients to achieve greater belonging and significance in their lives.
  2. Childhood memories for clients to understand the belief behind their behavior and to facilitate solution-focused change.
  3. The Mistaken Goal chart for understanding beliefs behind misbehavior and ways to encourage socially useful behavior.
  4. The Mistaken Goal Detective activity to practice this process.

    Lois Ingber has over 30 years experience providing services to children, youth, families and adults in clinic, school, hospital, social service and private practice settings. She uses Adlerian Psychology and Positive Discipline in all of her work in counseling, parent and teacher education, and as a consultant to schools and other professionals. Lois is a frequent presenter at conferences and workshops and is co-author with Dr. Jane Nelsen and others of the “Positive Discipline Tools for Kids,” cards and guidebook for teaching social-emotional skills to children, applicable in multiple settings.

    Dr. Jane Nelsen is the author of the Positive Discipline series and co-founder of a worldwide movement, through the Positive Discipline Association, that has certified thousands of Positive Discipline Facilitators in over 80 countries. The original Positive Discipline book, written in 1981, was the product of Jane’s deep gratitude for the changes she was able to make as a parent of 7 children after learning the work of Alfred Adler and Rudolf Dreikurs in her college class in Child Development and Family Relations. Since that time, Jane has authored or co-authored many books, tool cards, and several training manuals. Enthusiasm continues to grow from interest on the part of parents, teachers, couples and business leaders who have experienced stronger relationships as a result of training in Positive Discipline.  

    This is a District Meeting coordinated by the San Diego District

    This DISTRICT MEETING meets the qualifications for 2.0 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs, LPCCs, LEPs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. 

    Note: With supervisor approval, registered ASWs may use CEs toward LCSW hours.
