 ABOUT THE PRESENTATION

Presenter: Rebecca McDaniel, LCSW

The purpose of this two-hour training is to increase clinical social workers’ knowledge about the common causes and symptoms of various types dementia, describe key family-centered care planning needs and interventions, and increase capacity for identifying and addressing the needs of family care partners.

Teaching methods:

  • Live online didactic presentation based on a set of slides that address the identified learning objectives;
  • Video, facilitated case examples, activities, and group discussions to explore and problem-solve scenarios faced by attendees in their clinical work;
  • Digital copies of instructional slides and additional resources provided for each trainee.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify two validated tools commonly used to screen for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD);
  2. Describe three key safety concerns that impact people living with ADRD;
  3. Explain two environmental modifications and two behavioral interventions that may help family care partners in the management of behavioral symptoms in people living with ADRD;
  4. Describe the most common support needs of family caregivers, and local resources to address those needs.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Amy Abrams, MSW/MPH
Amy has worked in the field of long term care in San Diego for over twenty years, in care management, dementia care, and community health education. She holds a joint Master of Social Work and Master of Public Health from San Diego State University, and is a certified Positive Approach™ to Care dementia trainer. Amy is a passionate educator and vocal advocate for aging and disabled adults, and currently serves as the Director of Education for Alzheimer’s San Diego, a local non-profit organization whose mission is helping people affected by dementia, fighting stigma, and supporting research.


Rebecca McDaniel, MSW, LCSW

Rebecca has worked as a Social Worker in San Diego for ten years, focusing primarily on older adults and supporting those living with memory loss and care partners to those with Alzheimer's or another dementia. Her focus within this population includes; managing the largest offering of caregiver support groups in San Diego county, facilitating groups, providing individual counseling, and leading a county-wide Law Enforcement Referral program-where individuals living with memory loss are referred for support by Law Enforcement professionals. She holds a Master of Social Work from San Diego State University, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Rebecca is a dedicated professional bringing compassion, dignity and innovation at creating more thoughtful programs and services to those she works with, a self-proclaimed "hybrid" Social Worker, marrying both clinical and administrative Social Work practice. 

This is a District Meeting coordinated by the San Diego District

This DISTRICT MEETING meets the qualifications for 2.0 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs, LPCCs, LEPs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. 

Note: With supervisor approval, registered ASWs may use CEs toward LCSW hours.

Attendance and Registration Policies  

  • Non-members of CSCSW will be charged: $10 admission
  • For CEU’s there will be an additional charge of: $10 per CEU ($15 for 1.5 CEU’s; $20 for 2 CEU’s)
  • CSCSW Members and students will continue to attend and receive CEUs for free

Cancellation Policy

  • 14 days or more before event date: Full refund
  • 13-7 days before event date: 75% refund
  • 6 days or less before event date: No refund

Note:  Registration will be canceled if payment is not made at least 7 days prior to the event.
