 ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Presenter: Wanda Jewell, MSW, PhD, LCSW

This 7th workshop is a continuation of the series hosted by Tanya Moradians, Coordinator of the SFV Chapter of CSCSW. Our purpose is to present tangible and useful clinical concepts no longer taught in most schools of social work.

Weaving together theory, neurobiology, and practical tips for maintaining quality rapport in the middle phase, Dr. Jewell will discuss the use of empathy, laughter and other joyful interventions. A main value of social work is to improve social functioning. How can we help people feel and express more of the positives in life while being prepared to handle difficulties as they occur.

We will discuss the strengths perspective and emphasize the process of helping clients to thrive emotionally. Many people are worried about the future and ruminating about the past. In our current social/political context, anxiety and depression are at an all time high. How can we be present and enjoy the moment? How can we have satisfying relationships with ourselves and others.

An outcome of therapy is to integrate the brain, as we discussed last workshop.

This integration, a cohesive self, broadens one’s window of tolerance for stress but also for joy.
