Presenter: Terri Martin, LCSW, CBT, SEP Certified Bioenergetic Therapist, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, TRE® Trainer

Description:

Trauma is a whole body experience, impacting our sense of safety, our emotions, our thoughts and beliefs, our nervous system responses, the muscular holding patterns in our body, and even our access to pleasure. Somatic psychotherapies give us the knowledge and tools to effectively heal trauma, restore safety, and experience greater aliveness. It is important for therapists to be able to recognize and distinguish our clients’ developmental trauma and shock trauma, and know effective modalities to address each. Three specific somatic approaches will be described in detail: Somatic Experiencing, Modern Bioenergetics, and Trauma Release Exercises (TRE).

Learning Objectives:

Participants of this workshop will be able to:

  1. Recognize the difference between developmental trauma and shock trauma
  2. Name three phases of trauma treatment in body-oriented approaches
  3. Explain how Somatic Experiencing helps clients reset their nervous system
  4. Identify three examples of how Modern Bioenergetics includes the body in psychotherapy
