 ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Presenter: Michael P. Frank, MA, LMFT, CGP, LFAGPA

Description: Calling upon his many years of group therapy practice and teaching, Michael will present what he has come to believe are essential elements of leading an effective psychotherapy group. Going beyond theory and technique, this workshop will explore how a therapy group actually helps the clients, how the being of the therapist is often more important than the doing, and how there is no one right way to do this work. The workshop will include didactic presentation, case examples, and discussion.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify essential elements of an effective therapy group.
  2. List characteristics of an effective group therapist.
  3. Differentiate between doing and being as a group therapist.
  4. Distinguish between relational, interpersonal, and psychodynamic group therapy.
  5. Apply concepts of group psychotherapy to clinical work.
