(San Diego) Yearning to Breathe Free: Helping Seekers Tell Migration Stories

Please join us to learn how you can make a difference in helping seekers pursue their dreams. If your interests are in working with clients, evaluating needs, and/or learning about the universal expression of trauma, then we have information for you.

This presentation includes mini-lecture, story-telling, interactive practices, and discussion to specifically address clinician interests & needs. Resources for trauma-informed and culturally-responsive care will be provided along with information about paid and volunteer opportunities in the San Diego area.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will recognize how trauma is a universal experience across cultures and how universal aspects of trauma can be identified, supported, and shifted in interview, clinical contact, and evaluative settings.
2. Participants will learn how to conduct interventional story listening to help seekers identify the resource in their story, the restricting trauma symptoms, and the multitude of ways that clients can use both the resource with the symptoms to achieve feelings of wellbeing.
3. Participants will learn core components of trauma assessment for clinical and forensic evaluations.
4. Participants will learn core components of trauma-informed care and culturally responsive approaches to use in crisis, short-term, long-term, and evaluative settings.

About the Presenters: 

Our presenters both are affiliated with Survivors of Torture. Rachel is the Senior Mental Health Clinician at SURVIVORS.

Julie has provided assessment, training and clinical services, including expressive arts therapy as a contracted clinician at SURVIVORS since 2001.

THE SAN DIEGO DISTRICT PROGRAMS WILL TAKE PLACE ON THE FIRST SATURDAY MORNING OF EACH MONTH, FROM 10-12 NOON, AT OUR PRESENT JFS LOCATION.
