SUMMARY OF PRESENTATION: This presentation will focus on aspects of mental health in the Geriatric population including but not limited to late life mood disorders, different types of available treatments (pharmacological, non-pharmacological and natural remedies) and possible side effects. Coordination of care between medical and non-medical mental health professionals as well as the role of psychotherapy will be reviewed. Clinical cases will be presented to demonstrate diagnostic and treatment challenges.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Participants will be able to list the most common clinical conditions in a current Geriatric Psychiatry practice.
- Participants will be able to list the major drug categories used for treatment of the elderly and be able to identify common side effects.
- Participants will be able to list the main objectives when working with Geriatric patients.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Dr. Seliverstov obtained her medical diploma from the First Moscow Medical Institute in Russia and completed her psychiatric residency at Cedars Sinai Medical Center from 1998-2000 followed by a Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship at UCLA- NPI Geffen School of Medicine from 2001-2002. She is on the staff of the Sherman Oaks and Encino Hospitals and serves as a Director of Psychiatric Services with Panorama Gardens SNF. She is a Consultant for the Silverado Memory Care in Calabasas and consults for various other assisted living facilities in the San Fernando Valley. Previously, she had served as the Medical Director for the Behavioral Health Unit at the Jewish Home for the Aged. She is involved with Research through the Neuroscience Research Institute in Sherman Oaks and keeps her UCLA-NPI voluntary faculty position current. Dr. Seliverstov’s private office is adjacent to the Sherman Oaks Hospital where Dr. Seliverstov sees patients for initial assessments and follow up visits, including medication management and psychotherapy. Patients who are ages 25 years and up are welcome. Initial telephone triage is done by the front desk assistant and patients are encouraged to make the first telephone call on their own. Preliminary inquiries by therapists are always welcome to make the referral smooth and proper.

The Sherman Oaks Community Room is located at 15301 Ventura Blvd.,Sherman Oaks, Ca. 90403. The Community Room is located on the 1st floor near the Cheesecake Factory and beyond the Paul Mitchell store.

ATTENDANCE AND CEUs:
Members and students do not pay to attend. There is a nominal attendance fee of $10 for non-members. Society members earn 2.0 units free of charge. The fee for Non-members to receive 2.0 units is $20 This presentation meets the qualifications for 2.0 CE units for LCSWs, ASWs, LPCCs and MFTs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. All Clinical disciplines are welcome. Light refreshments are provided. Bring business cards, flyers, brochures.
NOTE: REGISTERED ASWs CAN NOW ACCRUE CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS TOWARDS THEIR LICENSE, AS LONG AS THEY RECEIVE PRIOR APPROVAL FROM THEIR SUPERVISOR.
