Presenter: Gordon Wong, MD

Description:  Marijuana is now legal in California. Gordon Wong MD will provide his perspective as a psychopharmacalogist to help clinicians better respond to patients in light of this change. This program will introduce the general political landscape for marijuana legalization globally and its implications. It will provide a basic framework for the neuroscience of how marijuana works in the brain and its effects. It will provide the latest evidence for the health risks and benefits of marijuana use in adolescents and adults.

Goals: 

  1. Clarify some of the benefits and risks in using marijuana.
  2. Neurological implications of marijuana use.
  3. Global view of legalization of marijuana.

    About the Presenter: 

    Dr. Gordon Wong is a psychopharmacologist in private practice in Menlo Park. Dr. Wong has been a popular and generous presenter at our Clinical Society Meetings. Last year he spoke on the "Cutting Edge Developments in Psychopharmacology - Genetic Testing." This year he has agreed to present on another challenging topic regarding marijuana and the issues it is presenting to the clinician as it has become legal.

    LOCATION INFORMATION: 

    The meeting room is on the third floor next to the cafe with free parking below the building. Take the Main Elevator. Meeting time is 12-2:00 PM with the first 15 minutes reserved for signing in and networking. The presentation starts at 12:15 PM following announcements. 

    CEU INFORMATION: 1.5 CEUs will be offered for LCSWs - members earn credits at no cost. Non-members are charged $10 admission and an additional $15 for CEUs ($25)
