Presents a follow-up presentation including updated information with Robyn Altmann, LCSW

Presenter: Robyn Altmann, LCSW | Jewish Family Service – HOPE (formally Family Violence Project)

SUMMARY OF PRESENTATION: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status or other factors. This presentation will include updated research on the prevalence and impact of IPV. Special populations such as male victims, older adults, people with disabilities, and children will also be included. Will provide general information about IPV using an interactive format. Other topics will include the dynamics of domestic violence, warning signs of abuse and reasons that and abused person stays. Best practice techniques for intervention with both adult victims and their children will be covered. The presentation will be interactive with opportunities for discussion provided throughout. Clinical examples will also be offered.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Participants will learn to recognize the warning signs of intimate partner violence.
  2. Participants will learn and understand the dynamics of intimate partner violence.
  3. Participants will learn to recognize the impact upon adult victims and their children.
  4. Participant will learn to recognize the global impact of intimate partner violence
  5. Participants will learn about the best practice interventions.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Robyn Altmann, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles –Hope (formerly Family Violence Project). She is the Director of Clinical Services and Coordinator of Field Work education. Her responsibilities include management of two outpatient counseling offices as well as two emergency shelter sites and a transitional shelter. She is also involved in program development, maintaining grant contractual obligations and the program budget. Ms. Altmann also participates in the Los Angeles Domestic Violence Council meetings. She also coordinates, is a trainer, and develops curriculum for JFS-Hope’s California state-mandated 40 hour domestic violence training. Ms. Altmann also provides consultation and additional training to community groups, program volunteers and other professionals. She directs the internship fieldwork program for social work students obtaining MSW’s and BASW’s within the entire agency.

ATTENDANCE AND CEU INFORMATION: 

Members and students do not pay to attend. There is a nominal attendance fee of $10 for non-members. Society members earn 2.0 CE units at no charge. The cost for non-members to receive 2.0 CE units is $20. This presentation meets the qualifications for 2.0 CE units for LCSWs, ASWs, LPCCs and MFTs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. All clinical disciplines are welcome. Attendees can go to any District Meeting throughout the State.

NOTE: REGISTERED ASWs can now accrue CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS towards their license, as long as they receive prior approval from their supervisor.

  • (The Community Room is located on the 1st level near the Cheesecake Factory and beyond the Paul Mitchell and ATM).
  • Validation for free all day parking passes will be provided during the meeting to the 1st 50 attendees (per the Galleria), so please arrive early.

Intersection of 101 and 405 freeways and corner of Ventura and Sepulveda).  Easiest entrance is at southern end of mall from Sepulveda.   Turn into Galleria at stop light ‘Galleria Gateway’ (near Ventura Blvd). Follow signs to Valet and then to Self-Parking. The Community Room is located on the 1st floor near the Cheesecake Factory, past Paul Mitchell Salon &  ATM.
