Presenter: Dena Sorbo, LCSW

Description:  In this program we will consider some of the topics that confront clinicians in daily practice regarding the boundaries of our relationship. We will consider the understanding of how a client's unconscious communication and the therapist's unconscious desires can affect the slippery slope. We will look at how to understand when we have begun to slide and the clinical significance of such enactments. We will look at the difference between boundary crossings and boundary violations. Some use of clinical vignettes will assist our understanding.

Goals:

  1. Understand the concept of the frame to aid in maintaining appropriate clinical boundaries.
  2. Have an understanding of projective identification and its impact on clinical enactments.
  3. Apply basic knowledge and self awareness in the service of preventing boundary violations.
