Program Description: Serious illness and dying are a part of life. But living with these realities is something everyone wishes they will never have to face. We fear them. We pretend they will never happen to us or to someone we love. But they do. They will. And it is good if we know what to do when it does happen. In this program we will explore how to care for the seriously ill patient from diagnosis to death. There is always a way to care even when we cannot cure.

Learning Goals:

  1. Be able to understand the difference between palliative medicine and hospice. 
  2. Be able to understanding of The End of Life Option Act. 
  3. Have tools to facilitate goals of care conversations with patients.
About the Presenters:
Sandy Chen, LCSW and Gary Bertuccelli, LCSW work together at Stanford and will present this program. Sandy is the Manager, Outpatient Palliative Care - Oncology Clinics. Gary is an Outpatient Palliative Medicine Social Worker, Stanford Healthcare. They both have extensive backgrounds in Hospice and Palliative Care.

Workshop Logistics:
The meeting room is on the third floor next to the cafe with free parking below the building. Take the Main Elevator. Meeting time is 12-2:00 PM with the first 15 minutes reserved for signing in and networking. The presentation starts at 12:15 PM following announcements. 1.5 CEUs will be offered for LCSWs - members earn credits at no cost. Credits for non-members is $15 per meeting.
