CSCSW San Diego presents Youth and Violence, Assessment and Intervention

Presenter: Abraham Loebenstein, Ph.D.

Dr. Loebenstein is Clinical and Forensic Psychologist, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at RJ Donovan Correctional Facility in Otay Mesa, CA. He is also in private Practice in San Diego.

Description: This presentation will review the usefulness and applicability of a violence risk assessment, background risk factors associated with youth risk for violence, the role of an assessment including psychological assessment measures, and interventions including evidence-based interventions, and other treatment considerations. There will be a special emphasis on explaining certain measures including self-report measures such as the Millon Adolescent Clinical Inventory (MACI); Performance-based measures and especially the use of the Rorschach Inkblot Test with Rorschach Performance Enhancement System (R-PAS). Semi-structured interviews will also be discussed, and especially the Structured Assessment of Violence Risk in Youth (SAVRY). Two or three cases will be reviewed which highlight different risk levels.

The San Diego Chapter of CSCSW holds its meetings on the first Thursday of the month from September through June  from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Jewish Family Service building, 8788 Balboa Avenue in Kearny Mesa. Meetings begin with a half hour of mingling, networking, and community building, followed by our program. CEU programs meet the requirements for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs, LPCCs, and LCSWs as specified by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences; CEUs are FREE to our members, $15 for non-members.
