Presenter: Joseph Verrone, LCSW, CSAT
Joseph Verrone, LCSW, is a graduate of CUNY-Hunter College, where he received his Master’s Degree in Social Work in 2008. Joseph has been in the Social Work profession for the past 16 years. He relocated from New York City to Los Angeles in 2012. As a Social Worker in New York, Joseph worked in both hospital-based and outpatient mental health settings, treating individual adults, families and children. In Los Angeles, Joseph has worked at the Sexual Recovery Institute (SRI), treating those suffering from sexual addiction. Joseph is also a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). He is a 4th year Clinical Associate at the New Center for Psychoanalysis. Joseph has always had an interest in psychoanalytic thinking and has utilized this perspective throughout his career.
In his Brentwood private practice, Joseph treats a range of patients, including adolescents, adults and couples. Joseph sees patients for psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, and has several years of experience treating LGBTQ patients. SUMMARY OF PRESENTATION: Sexually addictive and compulsive behavior can wreak havoc on the lives of the addict and those around them. This presentation seeks to educate practitioners about sexual addiction and how to think about it in their practice. The role of early-life trauma will be addressed. Mr. Verrone will provide an understanding of sexual addiction from a psychodynamic perspective, and discuss treatment interventions (utilizing psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral,
as well as other approaches) that focus on helping the patient to understand their emotions and behavior, build a culture of support, and take action towards recovery. There will be ample time for discussion and questions.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- To identify sexually addictive and sexually compulsive behavior in patients.
- To illustrate the role of traumatic early-life experiences in sexually addictive behavior.
- To teach treatment interventions and ancillary supports used in working with both sex addicts and partners, using both psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral approaches. Includes a discussion of the therapist’s use of self from both directive and non-directive perspectives, paying attention to the roles of transference and countertransference.
- To help patients define sexual behavior that feels fulfilling and authentic to them.

LOCATION: The Sherman Oaks Galleria is located at 15301 Ventura Blvd. - Intersection of 101 and 405 freeways and corner of Ventura and Sepulveda.
Entrance at southern end of parking structure is easiest. Follow signs to Valet Parking area and then to Self- Parking. Take elevator/escalator to The Community Room which is located on the 1st floor near the escalator, and past Paul Mitchell Salon and ATM.
Validation for all day free parking provided at meeting.

All clinical disciplines are welcome and may attend at NO charge. Attendees can attend any presentation regardless of its location. Students are encouraged to attend. Light refreshments are provided. Bring your flyers, brochures and business cards for networking and socializing. Society members earn 2.0 CE units at no charge. The cost for non-members to receive 2.0 CE units is $20. This presentation meets the qualifications for 2.0 CE units for LCSWs, ASWs, LPCCs and MFTs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
NOTE: REGISTERED ASWs can now accrue CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS towards their license, as long as they receive prior approval from their supervisor. ASW members receive CEUs at no charge.
