Presenter: Katelyn Sandoval, M.S.

Description: The presentation will focus on working with young adults approximately ages 18 to 24 years old and begin with examining the context in which young adults were born. Trends including communication expectations with the therapist, relationships in the age of social media, importance of language in gender and sexuality identification and increased awareness of mental health conditions and concepts will be explored. Case examples and potential therapeutic strategies will be included while inviting group discussion.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

Identify the social context in which young adults have grown and matured.
Understand the importance of specific language when referencing gender or sexual identification.
Recognize the impact technology and social media has on young adults and how it might show up in the therapeutic relationship.

Presenter Bio: Katelyn Sandoval is a a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT # 98262) with the State of California. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Counseling with a specialization in Marriage, Family and Child Therapy from California State University, Sacramento. http://counselingwithkatelyn.com/about/
