Presenter Name: Ruth Supranovich, LCSW

Description of presentation:

Attendees of this presentation will learn the following objectives: understand that traumatic experiences are inherently complex and occur with a broad context that includes children’s personal characteristics, life experiences and current circumstances; be able to evaluate a wide range of reactions to trauma and loss experienced by a child and family; be able to examine the manner in which danger and safety are core concerns in the lives of traumatized children; and be able to apply a framework for intervention which addresses the level of functioning of primary care-giving environments, including parent/caregiver and family unit. This current presentation will be highlights from a 5-day intensive course Ruth teaches that was developed by the National Center for Social Work Trauma Education and Workforce Development on the core concepts of trauma for the mental health treatment of children and adolescents.
