Presenter: Boghos Yerevanian, M.D.
Description: Bipolar Disorders are among the most common psychiatric illnesses. They contribute to high morbidity and mortality, including suicide. Usually lifetime disorders, they cause disruption in the life of patients and families alike and add significantly to the health care burden and cost to society. The importance of psychosocial interventions in maintaining control over this illness is becoming apparent. This review and update will focus on select diagnostic and treatment issues that are relevant to our audience with the hope of facilitating a team approach for the bio-psycho-social treatment of this increasingly prevalent and complex disorder.
About the Presenter: Boghos Yerevanian M.D. is retired Health Sciences Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the founder and former Director of the Mood Disorders Program at the UCLA/SFV Psychiatry Training program based at the Sepulveda VA Medical Center. Dr. Yerevanian graduated from the America University of Beirut. From 1980-1988 he was Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester where he founded and directed the Mood Disorders program’s clinical and research activities. In 1991 he joined the Department of Psychiatry at UCLA where he served as Clinical Professor of Psychiatry. He is the recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the Golden Couch Award for best clinical supervisor and the Silver Apple Award for Best Teacher, a total of 11 times in 25 years at UCLA. He is the author of numerous data-based scientific articles, book chapters and more recently a book on OCD. Currently he is in private practice in Encino, CA.
