Presenter: KATHY MEMEL, LMFT, Ph.D is a private Divorce & Child Custody Mediator and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. 

Kathy Memel often Co­Mediates with Family Law Attorneys.  With this arrangement, couples can receive the benefits of the psychological as well as the legal expertise. Through education and fair negotiation, she specializes in helping parents cooperatively resolve child custody issues during separation, divorce, and post divorce. Together, they work towards creating positive Parenting Plans for their children, while at the same time working with the volatile emotions that can arise in custody cases. The finalized Parenting Plan gets incorporated in the parents Marital Settlement Agreement and filed with the court. Parents retain complete control over all decisions, while never having to step foot in a courtroom. Dr. Memel formerly worked as a Family Law Paralegal and assisted in handling 40 divorces a month for five years, She is a former Conciliation Court Family Mediator at the Los Angeles Superior Court, a former psychology teacher at Beverly Hills High School, and a Divorce Co­Parent Educator. SUMMARY OF PRESENTATION: This presentation will be an introduction to increasing consciousness, awareness, and choices for parents going through separation, divorce, child custody, and parenting plan disputes. Effective communication tools and handouts will be offered so clinicians can begin to inform their clients about divorce options, understanding the needs and fears of children, parental fears, family trauma, grief and loss. Mediation is a cooperative rather than combative approach to settling disputes OUT OF COURT. Divorce is not the end of one’s family, it’s the BEGINNING of a family reorganization.
