Los Angeles District Presents

Description: Mindfulness and Intimacy will explore the applications of mindfulness from stress reduction to increasing sensuality and relational awareness. Giselle will offer participants some knowledge of the neurobiological benefits of Mindfulness practice. Participants will be guided in exercises including daily acts of mindful intimacy, specialized body scans, and interpersonal Mindfulness to increase attunement and to implement as a clinical intervention tool to augment intimacy skills with ourselves and our partners.

Learning Objectives:

1. To regulate self in clinical role and coregulate with clients/partners while building intimacy.
2. Increase interoceptive skills.
3. To identify and embody 3 ways of practicing daily acts of Mindful Intimacy.

About the Presenters: 

Giselle Jones, MSW, CMF is an associate clinical social worker working in sex therapy and sex and love addiction at The Center for Healthy Sex in West Los Angeles, and in general private practice in Los Feliz. Following a career as a performer and educator, she achieved her MSW at UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs where she received the Shapiro Merit Award and CSCSW's Jannette Alexander Award for clinical excellence. Following graduation, Giselle served for a year as child and family therapist at Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services in South LA.

Beyond clinical social work, Giselle has implemented her creative skills to collaborate with psychologists and police sergeants in training NYPD recruits to sensitively manage people suffering from mental illness. She also employed the use of role-play to educate students at UCLA’s Geffen School of Medicine in diverse patient interaction and care, and served as the first Director of Education for the non-profit youth literacy through poetry organization, Get Lit-Words Ignite. A 200-hour level Hatha Yoga Instructor, Giselle is incredibly passionate about integrating body-mind wellness, and holds a Mindfulness Certification from UCLA's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Studies.

Monica Blauner is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and psychoanalyst, with over 30 years’ experience working in mental health and addictions treatment. She worked in the Department of Psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai, and served as Program Director of the Sexual Recovery Institute. Monica presented “Mindfulness as a Therapeutic Tool” for CSCSW. Currently, she is in private practice, and is President-Elect of CSCSW.
