Description: Steve McNitt, LCSW and Nancy White, LCSW will present on "The Clinical Nuances of Treating Clients with Persistent Mental Illness". Working with this population involves collaboration across multiple disciplines in the systems of care as well as an emphasis on clinical case management. Early assessment, the ability to track treatment effectiveness over time, and skillful enhancement of client’s natural supports are critical. Attend this presentation to learn more about this population and how to harness the skills you already possess to increase your confidence and comfort with working with this complicated population.

Presenter Information:

Steve McNitt, LCSW is currently a Psychiatric Social Worker, Mule Creek State Prison, Ione CA. He has experience working within Multi-Disciplinary teams, practicing within the legal systems, court-ordered treatments and is trained in multiple evidence-based practices.

Nancy White, LCSW, is also employed with California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation at Mule Creek State Prison for the last 2.5 years. She works in their Enhanced Outpatient Program which is a step down clinic for inmates released from a mental health crisis bed or a state hospital. She is the primary clinician for clients that have a persistent mental illness providing individual and group therapy utilizing evidenced based therapies. Her past experience working with clients with persistent mental illness includes her work at the VA Outpatient Clinic in the Mental Health Intensive Program.

Objectives:

At the end of this presentation, attendees will understand:

Methods of assessment and early treatment.
How to feel clinically confident when working with clients with persistent mental illness.
Important considerations when working with clients, such as: involving family members and legal considerations.
Resources available to the clinician.
The importance of therapist self care.

MEETING AGENDA:

Networking: District presentation meetings begin with a half hour of networking, and community building, followed by a continuing education presentation, with discussion.

CEUs: Our courses meet the requirements for 2 hours of continuing education credit for LCSWs , MFTs, and LPCCs as specified by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Evaluation and Certificate are now being done digitally. Please register online. All attendees will be sent an evaluation link after the workshop, once an evaluation is submitted he/she will receive an immediate link to their certificate.

Costs: CEUs are FREE to our members, and cost $20 for non-members. Please feel free to invite fellow clinicians and encourage students to attend. (Nonmembers must pay either online or by check prior to receiving the evaluation link.)
